Dominus Estate Red
Rich and juicy are the beginning traits of this very famous wine. 2007 was a wonderful vintage in Napa and the European stylings of Dominus fit right in to the ripeness of this vintage. Black jammy blends of plum, blackberry, and black currants lead the charge on fruit and cassis is creeping in now with the age. Highlighting the fruit is vanilla and a cinnamon clove combination and an essence of black olive.
JaM Red Blend
JaM is short for John and Michele, the proprietors of this California winery.
Vibrant ripe plum and dark berry aromas are complemented by a spicy undercurrent of anise and a hint of oak. Lush blackberry and ripe black cherry flavors greet the palate while subtle vanilla and rich spiced plum continue to entice along the length. The opulent fruit is balanced by bright tannins and lively, linear acidity. Its youthful vivacity makes this wine perfect for grilled meats.
A blend of petite syrah and petite verdot

The core of this wine is a silky and amiably rich, textured base, with a pure Napa Valley cabernet focus. Flavors of cocoa, currant and sweet tobacco. This rich and chalky wine, devoid of assertive astringencies, drinks well now and should endure for a decade or more. Caymus, Napa Valley

Soda Canyon Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a very lively and somewhat boldly stated Napa Cab. It has a wonderful aroma of rich black cherry, mocha, black licorice, crushed herbs and rocky soil. It is a brooding arrangement of Cabernet in its masculine form. The palate is thick and dense with more of these aromas taking shape in the mouth. The licorice leaps quickly into play, followed by the blackberry fruit, dried black stone fruits and savory minerality. The tannins are firm but not too pushy. More sincere black chocolate and mocha than pure tannic adrenaline. The mouthfeel is filling and speaks in many ways to the terroir of where this wine is from. It is a “young soul” Cab for certain.
Drink 2011-2026
Beau Vigne Romeo Cabernet Sauvignon
From the winery: Romeo is a thrill from the first pour. This wine begins with a beautiful color of purple and black hues that cloak the glass. The aromatics of blackberry, cassis, black cherry and toasty oak are just what you would come to expect from a complex cabernet. This wine exhibits hints of tobacco leaf and a kiss of French Oak. The mouthfeel of this cabernet is very youthful and fresh. Bright red fruits are warmed by a wrap of vanilla and white chocolate. Several sensations of maraschino cherries, black licorice, and savory oak spices come to mind.
Hourglass Blueline Cabernet Franc (half bottle)
Since 2005, we’ve noticed the Hourglass Vineyard achieve an optimal balancing point. The canopies evened out and the fruit matured in unison throughout the three different blocks. This was a 12 year evolution of roots burrowing through fractured bedrock – the intense rock slowing the process and making the vines struggle for water and resources in the earlier years. Since ‘05 Hourglass has achieved remarkable consistency, and the 2008 vintage is no exception. Earth, black licorice, pomegranate, cassis and mint weave with toasted espresso and caramelized brown sugar to elicit a dark haunting aromatic. (Decanting for several hours can dramatically open up the aromatics and provide deeper layers of concentration on the palate.) Brooding and dark in aroma, the wine comes alive on the palate. Bright, natural acidity (a hallmark of Hourglass) provides structure and lift to the darker cassis and deep, black fruit flavors. Seamless integration from start to finish is a function of polished ripe tannin, which delivers a silky texture and lingering finish. This wine’s balance and nuanced subtleties lead us to think it will age with the grace of vintages like 2001 and 2005.
Hourglass Blueline Cabernet Sauvignon
Named after the “blue line” streams that enhance both its beauty and terroir characteristics, Blueline Vineyard is a steeply sloping vineyard situated in the nook where two canyons converge, just south of Calistoga in northeastern Napa Valley. Composed of Perkins, watershed alluvial gravel, sand, and loam soils, this vineyard has that magic combination of soil type, aspect, and micro-climate for Bordeaux varieties to develop the intense concentration and phenolic ripeness needed to produce structured, ageworthy wines. The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beauty. Aromas of cassis and blackberry, with baking spice, mint leaf, and mineral accents leap from the glass. With air, dark chocolate notes come forward, accentuating the ripe fruit and sweet earthy tones. On the palate, firm tannins frame a creamy, rich core. Toasty vanilla and savory spices flavors fold in, adding layers of complexity as the wine moves toward an impeccably polished finish. Decant now, or lay away for further development in bottle.
Half Mile Cabernet Sauvignon
Gorgeously ripened black fruit aromas leap from the glass, framed by the warm clove and cinnamon spice notes of the Tokaji barrels. There is an indelible pedigree and power to this wine, as it is as dark in color and plush in texture as one can imagine a wine to be. This character comes from the drought-suffering berries which really struggled to grow to full size, and in the final days of the season, lost a fifth of their weight due to evaporation from an astonishing dry spell. But it was precisely these conditions that provided the power, weight and density that makes this wine extraordinary. It is a show stopper.
Clif Family 'Gary's Improv' Zinfandel
From the winery: This rich, fruit-forward wine offers intense aromas of ripe cherries and vanilla. Blackberry jam and mulled spice flavors linger on the palate. The densely layered and complex flavor profile and subtle oak influence integrate with the soft tannic structure, ending in a long and satisfying finish.
The 2009 vintage was picture-perfect in the Napa Valley with overall temperate conditions and few swings in either direction. Late spring brought a few light rains that took the pressure off of irrigation. The region experienced less rainfall than is typical and relatively few truly hot days. The result was beautiful ripened fruit across all varietals
